Finvora is an app that makes it easier to learn about personal finance and investing through consistent bite-size lessons in a process called microlearning.
As 2024 came to a close, I reflected on what I wanted to accomplish before stepping into the new year. One thought kept popping into my head — I needed to learn how to invest. After spending most of the year hearing about the essential role it plays in building a secure future, I decided it was finally time to start. Having no prior knowledge on this subject whatsoever, I dove headfirst into articles and YouTube videos on “investing for beginners,” where I quickly realized that learning about personal finance felt either too complex or too dull. There was no engaging, fresh way to make learning about finance exciting.
I realized it was important to rethink how people learn effectively, especially in a world where Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and TikToks have shortened attention spans more than ever. Inspired by Duolingo’s success in creating consistency through bite-sized lessons, I started researching what makes learning both engaging and effective. That’s when I discovered microlearning—a learning method that breaks down complex information into short, focused lessons to improve engagement and retention. I set out to create a platform where people could spend anywhere from five minutes to an hour exploring finance topics in a fun, interactive way—one that makes learning feel less like a chore and more like a game.
Traditional personal finance education is often lengthy, complex, and unengaging, making it difficult for people with limited time to stay consistent. How can we make learning about personal finance engaging, easy to understand, and adaptable to the time constraints of busy individuals?
A learning app that will provide users with short, gamified lessons on personal finance, which will help busy individuals by allowing them to learn essential financial concepts in a fun, interactive way without requiring a large time commitment.
In this project, I designed Finvora to make learning about finance engaging and accessible. By using short, interactive lessons. I hope Finvora will enhance user engagement and make learning both easy and enjoyable.
To begin this process, I surveyed and interviewed potential users to understand their learning preferences and opinions on personal finance education.

Based on these insights, I focused mainly on accessibility and interactivity during the design process.
After identifying key user pain points — such as time constraints, difficulty staying consistent, and boring learning formats filled with complex jargon — I crafted these user personas to get a better understanding of potential users and how to approach fixing these pain points.

Once I had a deeper understanding of the problem and emphatized with potential users, it was time to brainstorm solutions and designs. I grabbed a piece of paper and started sketching anything and everything that came to my mind. A few minutes in, ideas began to take shape.

Soon after, I started working on low fidelity prototypes to define the structure of the app and establish a smooth user flow. My main focus was to make the app intuitive and easy to navigate, so users could seamlessly engage with lessons.

With the low fidelity prototypes complete, I shifted my focus to defining the app's visual identity. I wanted Finvora to have a modern, nature-inspired feel, so I chose a dark theme with green and red accents to create a bold yet calming aesthetic.
For typography, I picked Shrikhand Bold as the font for headings to add a fun, playful feel to the design and Roboto as the body text to maintain readability and a simple design.

Once the theme, colors, and fonts were finalized, I got to work on designing high-fidelity prototypes for the home page, topic page, lessons, and profile page. During this stage, I focused on creating a visually appealing experience while maintaining a clear user flow and ensuring intuitive navigation.

I am currently in the process of usability testing and refining the product. This round of user testing will help me gather feedback on lesson formats and how easily users can navigate the app. Based on the results, I plan to make improvements and adjust the prototype accordingly.
Designing Finvora completely from scratch, from start to finish, gave me a deeper understanding of the full UX/UI process—from early research about the idea itself and building basic wireframes to designing high fidelity mockups and prototyping.
As someone who loves getting things done quickly, this experience taught me the importance of slowing down and appreciating each step of the design process. I realized that every step—no matter how small— plays an essential role in making a product reach its full potential.
